Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Fade: Duel Arena ("Fade," "the App," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Checkmate Labs, LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use Fade.

2. Information We Collect

Fade is designed to collect as little data as possible. Accounts are anonymous: we never ask for your name, email or phone number.

• Your knight: a random account ID, a random knight name and code (a medieval word pair), and a four-digit PIN, which we store only in hashed form
• Game data: virtual gold, duel records and wins, streaks, virtual items, weekly board scores, castles you start or join, and the knights who brought you in or whom you brought in
• Push notification token: if you allow notifications, the token Apple or Google gives your device for Fade, so we can send you game notifications. You can turn them off at any time in your device settings.
• Gameplay events and crash reports: which screens loaded and how long they took, the taps that move a player through the game (for example starting a fight or sharing a link), the app version, whether the device is an iPhone or Android phone, and technical details of errors. We use these to find where players get stuck and to fix bugs. They are tied to your anonymous account ID, not to your identity.
• IP address: used briefly to protect the game from abuse (rate limits), and to connect a tapped challenge or castle link to the knight who opens Fade on the same network within 30 minutes, so the friend who sent the link gets credit. We do not keep IP addresses in our game database.
• Google Play install referrer (Android): when you install Fade from a challenge page's Google Play button, the knight code in that link, so the challenge is waiting for you
• Support tickets: what you write in the support form, and the knight code if you add it

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

• Real names, email addresses, phone numbers, or mailing addresses
• Location data or GPS coordinates
• Advertising IDs, cross-app tracking identifiers, or tracking cookies. Fade has no ads and does not track you across other apps or websites.
• Payment information. Nothing in Fade can be bought with real money.
• Photos, contacts, or any other personal files

4. Virtual Currency -- Not Real Money

All references to "gold," "wagers," "earnings," "entry fees," and "rewards" within Fade -- including those in PvP duels, the Boss Gauntlet, and the Endless Gauntlet ("The Depths") -- refer exclusively to virtual, in-game currency. This virtual currency:

• Has no real-world monetary value
• Cannot be purchased with real money
• Cannot be exchanged, transferred, or redeemed for real money or real-world goods
• Cannot be cashed out or withdrawn in any form

Fade does not facilitate, simulate, or promote real-money gambling. The game's virtual currency system is a game mechanic for entertainment purposes only.

5. How We Use Information

We use the information above only to:

• Run the game: duels, leaderboards, castles and challenges
• Send the game notifications you allowed
• Credit players for friends they bring in
• Understand how players use Fade and fix problems
• Prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service
• Answer support tickets

We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

6. Service Providers

We do not sell, rent or trade your data. A few service providers process it only so that Fade can run:

• Fly.io hosts Fade's servers, and Neon hosts its database
• Expo delivers push notifications, through Apple (Apple Push Notification service) and Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

7. Data Storage and Security

Game data is stored on secured servers in the United States. We use reasonable security measures to protect it from unauthorized access. Because accounts are anonymous, the data we hold does not identify you by name.

8. Children's Privacy

Fade is intended for users aged 12 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since Fade does not collect personal information (names, emails, etc.) from any user, there is no personal data at risk. If you believe a child under 13 is using the app inappropriately, please contact us.

9. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Settings in the App, or with the steps on our account deletion page. Deleting your account permanently and irreversibly removes its data: game statistics, virtual items and gold, activity history, gameplay events, push tokens and notification history. Castles you started pass to another member so your friends keep them, and the duels you fought are removed from other players’ histories.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
